Why I have chosen to become a psychologist?

From a young age I have always been interested in how the mind works. I enjoy supporting people in a one-on-one setting and being an empathic listener. This motivated me to become a psychologist.

I also appreciate the philosophy of the yin-yang symbol. Knowing that life has darkness and light but there is choice in how one chooses to approach this journey. In conjunction with this philosophy, I learned that while pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. Helping others to suffer less and enjoy life more was something I wanted to be a part of. For me, becoming a psychologist offered this.

What it is about the job that I love?

From creating a healing relationship at the start of therapy, to the celebratory send-off with someone who is in a better place, there is a lot to appreciate about being a psychologist. I love that I get to walk alongside others on their path towards approaching life in a different way. Where they move from a place of suffering to being more content with the ups and downs life has to offer. This brings me joy and is truly inspiring to watch.
